Fashion Drawing Template
I am sick of fashion drawing templates not being to-scale.
I hate the idea of designing on a “perfect,” unrealistic model, because when you start to make the actual garment, none of the proportions are correct and it all looks off. I view this as bad design etiquette.
To solve this problem, I have made scale template (10%) of the Women's Size 10 measurements, as used by Whitecliffe College. I then compared my to-scale template, to the “perfect figure” templates. There was a noticeable difference between the two.
These differences are now used inform my design language.
"Starting with a realistic figure as a base, cutting it up so it alters the silhouette, revealing more desirable attributes."
Idealized Body Enhancements:
- Longer Legs
- Higher Bust Line/ Smaller Scye Depth
- Narrower Shoulders/ Narrower Across Back
- Smaller Waist
I also repeated the same process for my own measurements against an idealized male figure.
Idealized Body Enhancements:
- Longer Legs
- Wider Shoulders/Wider Chest
- Smaller Waist
TO NOTE:
Vertical Measurements: The Centre is used as the zero point, and all measurements are in relation to this.
Horizontal Measurements: The centre line is used as the zero point. These Circumference measurements have been DIVIDED BY 6 to achieve the right ratio for a flat drawing.
